On March 2, Emerald Hills Institute and the Mt. Olympus Presbyterian Church held a joint, interfaith iftar at the church. The event started with speeches given by Micah Mahaney & Debra Penney, who are members of the church. From Emerald Hills Institute, Jean Irwin & Zeynep Kariparduc also gave speeches. They spoke about their experiences with interfaith events and the importance of togetherness.
Aylin Aghayarli, an intern at Emerald Hills, gave a presentation to inform everyone about what Ramadan is, why, and how Muslims fast. The call to prayer went off for Muslims to break their fasts and the senior pastor, Chris Pritchett, said a prayer before everyone started their meals. Dinner consisted of a variety of dishes made by those who attended the iftar.
The interfaith iftar 2 was a meaningful evening of connection and shared understanding. With speeches from both community leaders and a presentation on Ramadan, the event fostered a spirit of unity and cultural exchange. As the call to prayer was heard, attendees came together to break their fasts, enjoy a delicious meal, and strengthen bonds across faiths, celebrating the shared values of respect, community, and compassion.
